Linens part 2

Edited to add: We are participating in and Thrift Store Thursday and Thrifty Thursday usually hosted by Tales From Bloggeritaville, but this week while she is out of town you will find it here. Make sure to go visit these ladies and see all of the goodies that others have found. You may want to start here to see Victoria's first linen post.

Linens part 2 by Victoria

I did want to clarify a few things from my linens post the other day.

1) The coverlet that I picked up out of the "trash" was in a very nice neighborhood and I actually know the very clean lady that lives in the house. Just wanted to make sure you all know I'm not picking up nasty things out of the garbage and putting them on my bed. :)

2) My Goodwill doesn't typically have a lot of great items but after a dr's appt in a different part of town, I found a GW and they had all sorts of really great things. I have found, as many of you have, that you have to go often (weekly usually) and I check the linen bin each time I go. Most days I come away with nothing but sometimes I strike gold!

After my Dr appt I found this lovely pillow sham to use in my Sweet Girl's room. Again, hot water and I felt like it was good to go!

It added some interest and broke up the matchy matchy I had going on in here.

Now, I have always steered clear of pillows from GW because HOW do you wash them (unless of course they have a zipper cover)? I recently broke away from this trend when I spotted two of these darling round blue pillows and they were 1/2 off! What I did was look them over really well and sniff them. They looked extremely clean and smelled good and so I bought them. I put them in the dryer and also put them out in the sun for a couple of days before bringing them in.
I had to throw in a shot of the "spring" banner I bought at GW. It has lots of luscious glitter and the colors go perfectly in Sweet Girl's room! It was originally from Target and $9.99. I think I did pay $2.52 for it.

If anyone ever spies a little "George Monkey" in his pj's we need another one!!!!! I'll gladly pay you for it and shipping.

I love this room and the fact that most of her bedding was bought on clearance at Target as they discontinued this part of their Shabby Chic line. I had help from lots of family members who spied things on clearance at their Targets and picked up items for me. To see more of Sweet Girl's room and how the bedding has evolved go here. For part one go here.

Cheers,

~Victoria~

Again, awesome finds. What a beautifully charming room...perfect for such a precious little girl.

It struck out in the linen department at GW the other day, BUT found a class dome I've long been seeking! (Woo-hoo!) I had to giggle at your follow-up comment. I had nothing but admiration for you nabbing that coverlet from the curb! (I would have done the exact same thing if given the chance!)

I LOVE your sweet girl's room! I have only bought one pillow at a GW and it was held up, looked over very well and sniffed. I also did the same thing of dryer tumbling and out in the sun. Oh, and I also sprayed Lysol very liberally on it....don't want any nasties riding on the pillow...lol. I also LOVE that Spring banner...CUTE!

Love it! The blue pillow is great! Another thing I do when I pick up stuff that seems can't be washed in hot water is to spray it down with fabreeze or a similar product before putting it in the dryer. It kills bad smell and germs.

Your daughter's room is absolutely adorable! Your GW finds are awesome...I'm a little jealous ;) Thanks for joining TST; I'm excited to have a new participant!

Darling room! I agree that with the right cleaning, most textiles can be brought up to snuff (sniff?) -- and be useable.

My college age daughter also bought shabby chic bedding during the closeout sales at Target!

I'm just really getting into the thrifting thing -- visited my first GW on Sunday, great fun.
Thanks!
Cass

Victoria... You asked a couple questions on the blog... we put 6 can lights in and 2 school house pendants. I {along with Justin} scraped the popcord off the ceiling. Not fun!! :)

Great finds! I'm going to have to scroll back and see your coverlet. I cannot believe you found decent bedding on the side of the road. How can people stand to throw stuff like that away. It's a good thing there's people like us who aren't too proud to pick it up. :)

I'll let you know when I get my Aldi product review up. The jist of it, though is that I LOVE THE STUFF. Love.it.

Your bedroom is so sweet! Love those blue pillows from GW! I, too, stepped over my line and bought some needlepoint down pillows at GW. They passed the sniff test and I left them outside on the porch to air for about a week!

Both of your linen posts are just fabulous! I think you did real well without having to go through counseling LOL Just enough non matchy matchy to make it all work.

You found some wonderful things! I will tell you that I have bought a few pillows at GW before, if, like you said, they were in good condition and had a zippered pillow cover. I actually have put entire pillows in super-hot water on my wash cycle and then the dryer. They seem to hold their shape really well and then I don't worry about the "cooties!" :)
