Curtains

Well...I wish there was a big TA DA moment with my curtains but I've run into a bit o trouble with them.

While the Procrastination Party over at The Inspired Room definitely helped in that I finished sewing my curtains, the rod hanging and finishing hasn't worked out exactly as I figured it would. Long ago I picked up some finials and holders at a yard sale for $1. I decided to use these and bought a dowel rod to use with the curtains. I also decided to use clip rings to hold the curtains but it just didn't look right...
My sisters suggested I paint the clip rings so I painted a few orange shower curtain hooks (I wasn't ready to commit to painting my brand new clips yet) to see what it would look like (forgive the messy look...these clips are barely holding the curtain up there and if I try to straighten them, they will fall out!) and here is the outcome...
then I wondered what it would look like if I sewed a pocked at the top of the curtain and ran the rod through it, similar to these curtains from Ballard Designs.
Since I am a visual person, I pinned the curtains over the top of the rod just to get an idea of what it would look like (again, forgive the messy look...this was a quick pinning job)
and then here they are on the same rod.
Bottom line? I need YOUR help! Please let me know what YOU think. Which do you think looks best or do you have any other suggestions?

  1. Do you have enough fabric -length wise - to run them thru a rod? I like that look better. But it is really a personal thing...I know that is not an answer.

  2. such tough choices! I like them all but I think the last one I like best.

  3. I really like it better without the clips but then I really don't like those clip things in the first place. So my choice is the last photo. :)

  4. Well, I like that last photo...but I also like the white clips!! I do like the clips in white. You could baste stitch the curtains to get a better idea (better than the pins) and then if you didn't like it it would be easy to rip right out.

  5. I like the last picture better than the clips. I think it will look better once you sew the rod pocket.
Can't wait to see what you decide!

  6. I like the look of the last one too. Maybe you can sew them or pin them 'permanently'. Nice curtain color.

  7. The last picture is my vote- the rings have a tendency to slip the fabric out alot (at least that is my experience)- you have done a super job sewing these curtains! if for some reason you don't have enough length for the pocket you might consider sewing a different contrasting or patterned fabric to either the top of hem of fabric for a different look.

  8. Oh, just keep pinning! It's a really lush look, and it doesn't seem that you need those panels for privacy, because of your blinds. It looks really great.

Love the 'curtainize' term, too! You girls are alot of fun.

  9. I'm going to be different. I like the white rings. Since they are behind a sofa and won't be opened and closed all the time for privacy, you wouldn't have to worry about too much pulling depending on how much that sweet girl of yours would pull on them. =) That's my 2 cents.

    Have a great day!

  11. I think running the rod through the curtains would look best- it makes them look fuller.

  14. Hi Victoria,
The clip rings don't look all that bad in your picture. However, the look of the curtains with a rod pocket is more finished and it looks quite nice to me. Given the choice, I would do the latter. Good luck.

  15. I like the ring clips, if they aren't working just get some cheap ones at Walmart? Mine have never slipped. I have switched over to all ring clips and I love opening and shutting my curtains with ease. I like the rod pocket too, but that is just my opion, hope that helps.

  17. I could go either way...I love the rings for ease of shutting so if you are going to be opening and closing these curtains, the rings help tremendously.

But I do like the look of the rod and pocket...

Either way, THANKS for joining in the party!
