Thrift in the yard

A friend of mine told me that she bought several plants on clearance at Lowes recently (thanks Pam!) so last week my Sweet Girl and I hit up Lowes and happened upon some clearance plants at the back of the Garden Department. Look at all these wonderful plants! We spent $13.38 and found some fantastic finds.

First off my $1.50 Dahlia. Looks perfect and should come back next year.

My most expensive plant was a Clematis (not shown) I bought for $2.50. It looked fine, just needed to be put into the ground.

I did buy a few annuals to put in this planter that I bought on clearance at Home Depot when we went to the mountains. It is one of the lightweight planters that looks like the real thing.
I love the shape and handles.

The annuals cost me $1.75 for a pot of zinnia's and 2 salvia plants.

I also bought a 50 cent trailing/vine looking plant that I don't know what it is! :) For 50 cents I figured could buy it and figure it out later. Anyone know what it is?

I was THRILLED to get another herb to add to my little herb "garden" (I use this term loosely). It is called Pilgrim Oregano and has pretty little purple flowers.

I also bought two wonderful looking bee balm plants, one for me and one for my Mom and two kinda sad looking Homestead Verbena's ( I think they'll be fine). Both of these are perennials and the price was just right!

The girl that checked me out asked if I was good at getting plants to come back to life. :) HA! I think they just need some good ground and water and they'll be fine!

Hop on over to Leigh at Tales from Bloggeritaville for more Thrifty Thursday ideas!

Happy gardening to you all!

  3. Such a bargain you two made. You will get so much enjoyment from them this year - and in years to come on the perennials. I beleive the vine in question is what is called "Asian Jasmine". I bought a couple this year when I purchased a bunch of sale items at a local feed store.

    Loved the pictures!

  5. Love that pink zinnia w/ the blue salvia. Your vine is a vinca vine, or at least I am pretty sure that is what it is called. It will spread like ivy, and creep. If you have a spot that you would like filled, plant this and you should have a bunch. I will try to show you a picture of mine. LOVE the flowers!!!Jackie

  9. Oh my gosh now I'm going to have to head to our HD to see if they have plants on sale... I cannot resist that!

That's a vinca you've got on the vine, and depending on where you live, the dahlias will come back if you dig up the tubers at the end of the season and replant in the spring.

    Lovely post! LOVE that urn!

  11. I LOVE that planter!! On clearance at HD? Wow. I love Lowes' clearance section so much! Usually there's not a darn thing wrong with the plants that they mark down. I'll have to pop in at mine, because the squirrels have ripped apart one of my planters!

  14. I have to make a trip to my Lowe's to see what they have! You got lots of great flowers! Love that urn - the scrolly part is so pretty.

Victoria - yes I know there are two Ballard Outlet stores here. I took pictures the last time I went and I think I put them in my Field Trips category. They're still expensive even though they're outlets - at least I think so LOL!
